Arizona has specific tint laws. Going too dark can result in a $100+ ticket and required removal.

What Does VLT Mean?

VLT stands for Visible Light Transmission—the percentage of light that passes through the tint. A 33% VLT means 33% of light passes through (fairly dark). A 70% VLT is very light. Lower numbers = darker tint.

Why Arizona Allows Dark Rear Tint

Arizona recognizes the extreme heat and UV exposure residents face. While front windows must allow visibility for safety, rear windows can be as dark as you want to protect passengers and keep your vehicle cool.

Medical Exemptions

Arizona allows medical exemptions for darker front window tint. If you have a condition that requires protection from sunlight (lupus, photosensitivity, etc.), you can apply for an exemption through ADOT.

Our Recommendation for Arizona

  • Front windows: 35% ceramic tint (legal and effective)
  • Rear windows: 15-20% for maximum heat rejection
  • Windshield: Ceramic strip at top for glare reduction
